Review: Sony DSC-T200 Cyber-shot camera

Sony's latest 8.1 megapixel pocket digital camera has lots of new features on offer and great picture quality, but it's not without its issues.

Sony's an interesting organisation. It's grown from manufacturing roots to become a worldwide brand which not only makes all sorts of mainstream electronics, but also dabbles in the movies, mobiles and MP3 players.

That inevitably puts it under a lot of pressure to succeed in a host of categories and it's probably due to this that we've seen Sony drop the ball so badly with the likes of the Walkman in the face of an onslaught by Apple's iPod. That's forced Sony to look to its laurels and rediscover what once gave it an edge in the personal mobile music space.

To its credit, Sony's partnership with Ericsson in the mobile-meets-music space and the opening up of its latest generation of portable music players all suggest that Sony is far from a spent force and is reinvigorated by the challenge newer brands have brought to bear.

Apple killed the TV star: Television on an iPod

You've all seen the iPod nano: It's tiny, expensive and always has Nelly Furtado gracing its screen. Like the video iPod, you cannot only listen to music but watch TV episodes and movies. Having hours of entertainment in the palm of your hand is an exciting prospect, but there are some drawbacks.

Major television networks are basically obligated to allow their shows to be viewed online for free. All you have to do is have a computer and a relatively fast Internet connection. So why would anyone want to buy an episode on iTunes when you can get it for free on the network's site? At $1.99 a pop, the mobility hardly seems worth it, especially when the $2 could be spent on a poorly made snack.

The image you portray while watching your iPod isn't a positive one. Quietly laughing in response to a 2.5 square-inch episode of "The Daily Show" on the bus gives off a slightly crazy impression.
