Whilst thumbing my way through a diary from our honey-moon/summer vacation, my wife and I discovered the section we dedicated to all the radio stations that were available through the miles we put on in Tennessee and northern Mississippi. Surfing the dial through the myriad of different stations was a sheer delight for me.
It was quite a different story for Gerri though. Don't get me wrong, she enjoys the radio just as much as the next casual listener–but there is a difference between a radio head like me and the casual listener. Rather than just listen a few hours a day to hear my favorite music along with some info and possibly some odd eyebrow-raising creativity on-air, I listen intently to the overall sound of a station. I try to break down how they manage to execute it all within the parameters of their particular format. After all, it's the business I'm in, and my lifeblood.
