NY trip 'could cut Xmas spending'

A shopping trip to the Big Apple could cut Christmas spending by hundreds of pounds, figures have shown.

An iPod Classic was nearly £32 cheaper in New York at an average price of £127.09.

Shoppers could pay nearly £107 less for a Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS camera which is priced at an average £146.30 in the Big Apple.

The Transformers Optimus Prime voice changer helmet is £14.20 cheaper in New York than the £29.83 average price in London.

Other big savings on electrical goods include a DVD player - the LG BH100 - priced at an average £459.11 in New York compared with £916.65 in London.

Review: Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro sound isolating earphones

With the Super.fi 5 Pros, Ultimate ears has definitely made improvements upon their high-end consumer line. But was it enough to impress us?

Design Very Good

Our first experience with Ultimate Ears earphones was plagued with design quality problems. Our extended bass model had one of the flimsiest headphone cords wed ever seen, and we were constantly worried it was going to break. We hated the cheap plastic tubing that they used to provide support behind the ear, and after 5 weeks, the back panel that was cheaply glued on became detached, and the speaker wire broke. The earphones were useless.

So it pleased us to no end to find that every issue we previously had with the design quality had been fixed with the Super.fi 5 Pros. The cord is made of thick, clear plastic, and we were no longer afraid of bending or tightly wrapping it.

iPhone launch helps to ring up 300 jobs

MORE than 300 jobs are being brought to Scotland to cope with demand for the much sought-after iPhone following its UK launch this week.

O2, which has an exclusive contract with Apple to sell the device in the UK, has taken on about 100 extra retail staff north of the Border - to cope with the expected "unprecedented demand" for the phone - and an additional 200 iPhone-designated staff at its Glasgow Skypark call centre.

Venturi Mini: A2DP Bluetooth adapter for cars

NextGen Venturi today unveiled the Venturi Mini, a new music phone and MP3 adapter designed for in-car music as well as voice calls that works with Apple's iPhone (only via line-out and not via Bluetooth, as it requires A2DP support on the handset). The device introduces the first true convergence of Bluetooth music streaming, hands-free calling, and USB-style charging, according to the company. When plugged into a vehicle's 12-volt adapter, the Venturi Mini uses Bluetooth to stream stereo music from any A2DP phone and wirelessly route calls through the in-car sound system. The phone also features a built-in charger to power devices on-the-go and is designed to work with all vehicles. NextGen Venturi's Venturi Mini is priced at $130, and will hit store shelves across the U.S. in December.

The Venturi Mini aims to become a personalized in-car radio station, playing music from an MP3 enabled phone using wireless A2DP Bluetooth technology.
