Carjackers take Gloria Romero's van

Carjackers struck just outside veteran actress Gloria Romero's home in New Manila, Quezon City and took her van from its driver late Wednesday night.

The driver was about to park Romero's green Hyundai Starex van (ZGB-830), which was also carrying the actress' grandchild, inside the actress' house compound on 7th Street, Barangay Mariana at 11:45 p.m. when four gunmen approached the vehicle.

The carjackers opened the van's door and hit the driver in the face with a gun, took the wallets, cellular phone and iPod of Romero's grandchild and driver and forced them out of the vehicle.

Some of the carjackers sped off with the van while the rest boarded a blue Toyota Vios that had no license plate and sped off.

A radio dzMM report said the actress saw everything that happened, but she decided not to go out of her house.

Alleged photo of v1.1.2 jailbreak surfaces

A photo surfaced today suggesting that a 'jailbreak' was already developed for Apple's new iPod touch firmware even before its official release yesterday. Apple on Thursday released its iPhone and iPod touch v1.1.2 update, bringing additional language support alongside several other features/fixes. The previous update from Apple, v1.1.1, essentially 'bricked' -- or rendered useless -- most hacked iPhones that made use of 'unlocking' techniques to make use of non-AT&T cellular service. Hackers flocked to the iPhone after the device launched in late June, developing clever ways to bypass the handset's built-in security to install third-party applications. [corrected]

TUAW reports that a hacker by the name of 'planetbeing' supplied the photo which appears to show an updated and jailbroken iPod touch.

BROWN: Radiohead tuned in to the possibilities

For Radiohead, the experiments continue. Fresh from allowing fans to name their price to download the new album, In Rainbows, the band has announced plans to rerelease its entire seven-CD back catalog.

The twist: It's a boxed set on a USB memory stick - the same plug- in flash stick some school kids use to save and turn in their homework.

The four-gig stick will contain six studio albums and a live release in lossless WAV files. That will appeal to both the iPod user, who can easily convert those files to MP3, and audio purists who demand the best sound and bit-rate. No prices have been announced.

Radiohead's not the first to try this. Other artists have released music on memory sticks with little success. One exception: Nine Inch Nails deliberately leaked its latest album, Year Zero, by leaving one song at a time on memory sticks in the restrooms at its concert, betting that a fan would find it, upload it and create pre-release buzz.

Yes they can: a creative design competition

Never let it be said that Long Island construction and architectural professionals can't throw a pretty good meal together from a few cans of food.

Make that 28,627 cans, from mandarin oranges to French green beans, crabmeat to chunk light tuna.

Those cans were the building blocks for eight giant sculptures - among them a whale (7,056 cans), a birthday cake (1,618 cans) a stoplight (4,296) and an iPod (880 cans) - designed and assembled by teams for a competition known as Canstruction. It's sponsored by the Long Island chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, under the auspices of the Society for Design Administration.
